Studio Diary | Cassia And Milo

This past month has seen the Wavefarm team traveling to Station Studios in Balbriggan to record Irish-Indie duo Cassia and Milo. The pair have been in production with us on their upcoming debut E.P, due for release this summer.

Cassia recording vocals

The sessions began with the band laying down multiple vocal takes. Including several unplanned backing harmonies ad-libbed by Cassia. Her creativity in the studio set a great tone and mood for the days that followed, with the time spent in pre-production paying off. The vocals were recorded using an SE Z5600a through an Avalon pre-amp.

With the vocals done, it was time for the E.P’s guitar tracks. During this session Milo spent the day in the studio over-dubbing both rhythm and lead acoustic parts, switching between steel and nylon stringed guitars. A stereo pair of condenser microphones were used to capture the takes. With one recording position being influenced by legendary sound engineer Steve Albini’s acoustic guitar set-up, a large diaphragm condenser pointed off axis above the instrument’s sound hole.

After several successful recording sessions, the Wavefarm team have begun the mixing process with plenty of great takes and performances to work with. Look out for Cassia and Milo’s debut E.P this summer.
